The people who are making money with websites are making sales. Let's face it – to make money in anything – sales have to be made!
Everybody hates sales…
but everybody loves to buy!
You hate the salesperson…
but you love the helpful person.
When was the last time you were sold?
(bad feeling)
When was the last time you bought something?
(good feeling)
People who have a hard time selling things should keep their day job and not start a business. Businesses that don't sell – don't stay in business. Sales is where the money comes in.
But you don't have to be a salesperson to sell.
If you have a story to tell and your story and your recommendations can help someone else… isn't it your obligation to tell them?
That's what I do – I tell stories.
True stories are still stories.
And anyone who hangs with me shares things through stories that can help other people. We promote things online and in person because we believe in them.
What do you know that could help someone else? ==>>Don't keep it a secret!
Let the world know what you know! You are making other people's lives easier by providing a solution to a problem.
People pay good money for good solutions.
And they tell their friends to go get the solution too.
Just make sure it's really a solution.
Whether the thing you are recommending is $5 or $5,000 – only recommend things you would want someone recommending to your mother, father, daughter or son.
Affiliate Marketing
There are over 100,000 a companies looking for help selling their products – so you don't have to have a product of your own, deal with shipping or take care of customer service.
If you already know what you will be selling – this section is not for you. This if for the people who are looking for something they can sell.
Find a product or products that you believe that are related to what you decided to write about. Now, write about those products and how they helped you.
Don't do reviews on products you haven't used or tried and decided not to use. That's not cool.
Where Can I Find Products to Recommend?
Let's say you like your storage unit you got from Amazon – a lot.
And you felt this particular storage unit could help a lot of people get organized while looking great, so you write about it on your website.
You include lots of cool pictures (that you link to your affiliate link on Amazon) and useful info on this storage unit. (with a text link like this one here)
Amazon is going to pay you 8% commissions for every storage unit you sell through the link you put on your website. Let's say you have 7 friends who likes the storage unit too. – You make $95.44
Amazon is actually one of lower paying affiliate programs out there.
Amazon's full affiliate agreement is online –
Here is a summary of the commissions as of 2018:
- 1.0% for video games and game consoles
- 2.0% for televisions and digital download games
- 2.5% for computers, computer components, DVD and Blu-Ray
- 3.0% for toys
- Amazon tablets and Kindle devices: 4.00% (Plus anything not listed!)
- 4.5% for paper books, healthcare, personal care, sports, kitctchen, car and baby products: 4.50%
- 5.0% for digital music and video downloads; grocery items, handmade items or musical instruments
- 6.0% for headphones, beauty products, musical instruments, business and industrial supplies
- 7.0% for clothes and accessories, Amazon TVs, Amazon Echo products and jewelry
- 8.0% for furniture, lawn and garden, home improvement, pantry and pet products
- 10.0% for Amazon fashion items and Amazon Coins
I use amazon links because they sell everything under the sun and sometimes it's nice to have the convenience of being able to recommend any product and make a few dollars here and there from Amazon. But really – a few dollars doesn't pay the rent!
Looking back at my Amazon history over the last 7 years I have been an affiliate – my best month was $121.69 in December 2015 and I have had many months where my income has only been a few dollars (or nothing) from Amazon.
My recommendation is – don't put all your eggs in one basket!
Affiliate Networks
An affiliate network is a place where people go if they have a product they want other people to sell & where people looking for something to sell can go.
You can literally find anything!
If you haven't figured it out yet – this is where you find a way to help people.
The product or service you choose to share and others choose to buy – has to solve a problem for some group of people. If it's not solving problems… find another product or service.

Hey Heather, like you I joined Wealthy Affiliate to learn how to make money online through Affiliate marketing and you’re right, my website was built in under a minute.
Initially I was rather sceptical that it was possible for a newbie like myself to accomplish making money online but once I started WA’s training it became apparent that anyone can reach success if they are determined to keep working.
Rolling on, I am only a third of my way through the training program but I am implementing everything that’s taught meanwhile I have accomplished conversions, nothing spectacular at present however my aim is to earn high revenue on a consistent basis.
Like one experienced blogger told me, don’t try and sell anything and always offer an alternative therefore you don’t appear as pushy.
I’ve a fair way to go to acclaim the dizzy heights of consistent revenue yet I can certainly see potential – here’s hoping,

It contains everything essential and, in my opinion, is tempting to make a positive decision to start an online business as an affiliate marketer. Really good information here for starting an online business. If I was not already a member of WA, I would join based on this information. You mentioned you don’t really make much from Amazon. So, can you tell us where the majority of your online income comes from?

The majority of my effort over the past 3 years has been on my health blog – my family was very sick and we got our health back – so helping other people is near and dear to my heart. I have many niche websites: physical products, information websites, books, supplements, affiliate programs – some that date back to the 2000’s – I get residual income from monthly and yearly memberships plus return customers and referrals. I have been full time working from home since 2010 – mostly affiliate marketing.

AWOL and many others like them are crazy expensive. So many people fall for the “get rich quick” phrase. Success in this business takes time and committment and rewards better than any career after such a small investment of time! You post is on target!!!
