I started working from home because my son got sick and he was too sick to go to school.
He needed his mom, so I quit my job.
I was already working from home and working a full time job, so I was making some money and had full faith that I could replace the income from that job and then some – and I was right.
Getting well is expensive (and he is well)… so when he felt well enough, I would work on the computer.
I saw an interview with Joseph Campbell years ago on PBS where he said, “Do what you love and the money will follow.”
—update— he actually said “Follow your bliss”
I love helping other people like me who CAN'T work a regular job to work from home, like I do. You don't have to do exactly what I do – you have to find something you love to do and DO IT. Find a way to make a living doing it. There are lots of things you can do.
I don't agree with every suggestion on this blog but here are some ideas for working from home with a disability.
I tried doing surveys and they did not pay. All I got was a bunch of spam.
Some other things they suggest: freelance writing, proofreading, being a virtual assistant, mystery shopper, home based call center, house sitter, baking at home, and more ideas.
1. Freelancing: Writing / Graphic Design / Programming Freelancers can’t count on the same steady paycheck and benefits as workers at jobs You can earn full-time income but can be hard to find gigs. Upwork.com , Craigslist.org

I teach… and encourage others to start a blog about whatever they love to do. I recommend a training, community and tools that are everything you need to get started with your online business.
It's free to start – but the best way to get lasting success is to commit to a year of Internet, affiliate and WordPress marketing training for $359 – and you can build a lasting business by putting in 10-20 hours a week (and following the step-by-step training.
This is not a job.
This will not start paying tomorrow.

Hello Heather,
I agree! I am so glad I found WA so I could learn to build my own websites. I have one on pet health and one on human health and I love sharing my discoveries with the world. This is a slow process. You won’t make a bunch of money right away but if you follow all the steps and have patience you can be successful. The amount of success is mostly dependent on your perseverance and patience. The more time you put in the larger and more profitable your business can be.
It is so nice to have a business based on whatever you are interested in without any of the pressure of MLM or selling some random product. You also don’t have to bother your family and friends. This program teaches us how to get organic traffic from online searches so people looking for a specific answer to their problem can find our sites.
It is much more likely that someone will be successful in a business if they love it. It is too easy to get burned out if you are stuck doing something you really don’t care about. That is the beauty of this training!
I love that your sites are about health – we need more people helping people heal – so more power to you! Wishing you all the success in the world. I couldn’t agree more about the training in WA – it’s the best I have seen and I have seen a lot of trainings!
Hey Heather. The thing I like the most about your perspective is when you’re pretty much homebound and need to make additional money. My Dad is a caregiver and has to take care of my mother 24/7 as she has had a massive stroke. There are millions of people around the world who have to live on basically nothing and need more options. Thank you for seeing this and providing some options.
Truer words were never spoken. What a gift to be able to earn money and possibly afford some natural treatments that can relieve their suffering! I know so many people who just feel like they have no answer. It costs money to be sick. Most of the treatments that work are not covered by insurance. I hope your dad is building a blog! And I hope your mom improves too, that’s rough, Rick. Many blessings!
The only problem is my dad hates technology and doesn’t know what to do after he turns the power on to his computer. He has so much he could share with the world. I will continue working on him.
My mother on the other hand has always loved to write. Even with her stroke she can type slowly and would love to write some but my dad has a hard time getting everything done around the house and his schedule does not allow for much free time for her to write, except in the evenings. It’s a sad thing to see but my dad truly loves my mother and has found a way to keep from putting her in a nursing home so I have to give him a lot of credit for what he does day after day.
He has often said that no one understands what caregivers go through unless you have done it yourself.
Wow, that’s true love. Your mom and dad are lucky they have each other. My Mother-in-Law had a stroke and lived for many years after – she lost her vision for a while – and then one day it came back. She lost some of her muscle control and had to relearn to walk, talk and use her grip in her hands – but she got that back, too. She had mostly recovered from the stroke when she died of kidney failure. The only inevitable – death and taxes. Old age is hard on the body. It’s something that happens to all of us.
I hope your mom recovers enough so your mom and dad get to spend some quality time together.
Wow! I had never thought of how Wealthy Affiliate would be so great for people with disabilities. I am so glad you put this article out there and I hope it can change the lives of people that struggle trying to make a living with their disability
Thanks, Clyde! I hope so too. 🙂
